Helmut Oehring

Helmut Oehring wurde 1961 in Ost-Berlin geboren. Als Gitarrist und Komponist Autodidakt, war er zwischen 1992 und 1994 – nach Konsultationen bei André Asriel, Helmut Zapf und Friedrich Goldmann – Meisterschüler von Georg Katzer an der Berliner Akademie der Künste, zu deren Mitglied er 2005 gewählt wurde. 1994/95 war er Stipendiat an der Villa Massimo in Rom und erhielt seitdem zahlreiche Auszeichnungen, u. a. den Hanns-Eisler-Preis des Deutschlandsenders Kultur, den Orpheus Kammeroper Preis Italien und den Schneider- Schott-Preis. Der Hindemith-Preis (1997) und der Arnold-Schönberg-Preis (2008) wurden ihm für sein gesamtes Schaffen verliehen, das heute rund 250 Werke nahezu aller Genres umfasst. Oehrings Kompositionen und Produktionen werden in Konzertsälen und auf Bühnen in ganz Europa, Asien und Nordamerika aufgeführt. In jüngster Zeit wirkte er auch als Dirigent und Regisseur eigener Werke. Im September 2011 veröffentlichte btb/Randomhouse Helmut Oehrings Autobiografie Mit anderen Augen. Im März 2013 wird seine Oper zum Wagner-Jahr SehnSuchtMEER oder Vom Fliegenden Holländer in der Deutschen Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf uraufgeführt, im Juni 2013 folgt die Premiere von AscheMOND oder The Fairy Queen für die Staatsoper Unter den Linden im Schillertheater Berlin. Aktuell arbeitet Helmut Oehring mit seiner Librettistin Stefanie Wördemann an einer neuen Musik für Stimme und Kammerensemble zu F. W. Murnaus Stummfilm Sunrise: Song for Two Humans von 1927 (UA 5. Oktober 2013 mit David Moss und dem Quatuor Sine Nomine in Le Capitole/Lausanne) und an den Musiktheaterwerken Orfeo or The Heart of Darkness für das Ictus Ensemble, Emanuelle Haïm/Le Concert d'Astrée und die Opéra de Lille, MUNCHmusik für das Cikada Ensemble Oslo sowie déja vu/entendu für das ensemble interface (UA 2014/15).

Helmut Oehring was born in 1961 in Berlin. An autodidact guitarist and composer, and following consultations with André Asriel, Helmut Zapf, Georg Katzer and Friedrich Goldmann, he became a master student of Georg Katzer between 1992 and 1994 at the Berlin Academy of Arts; in 2005, he was elected member of the Academy. In 1994/95, Oehring was guest of the Villa Massimo in Rome, and he obtained numerous prices since, including the Hanns Eisler Prize from the Deutschlandsender Kultur, the Italian Orpheus Chamber Opera Prize and the Schneider Schott Music Prize. He also was awarded the Hindemith Prize (1997) as well as the Arnold Schoenberg Prize (2008) for the entirety of his creation which comprises more than 250 works of nearly all genres up to now. Oehring’s compositions and productions are programmed by concert halls and stages throughout Europe, Asia and Northern America. Oehring works also as a conductor and stage director of his own works. In September 2011 Helmut Oehring’s autobiography With different Eyes was published by btb/Randomhouse. In March 2013 his opera for the Wagner-Year SehnSuchtMEER or The Flying Dutchman will be premiered at the German Opera at River Rhine Duesseldorf, followed by the world premiere of AscheMOND or The Fairy Queen for the Berlin States Opera in June 2013. Actually Helmut Oehring and his librettist Stefanie Woerdemann are working on a new music for vocalist and chamber orchestra for F. W. Munrau's silent movie Sunrise: Song for Two Humans from 1927 (world premiere October 2013 with David Moss and the Quatuor Sine Nomine in Le Capitole/Lausanne) and the musictheatre works Orfeo or The Heart of Darkness for Ictus Ensemble, Emanuelle Haïm/Le Concert d'Astrée and the Opéra de Lille, MUNCHmusic for Cikada Ensemble Oslo and also déja vu/entendu für das ensemble interface (world premieres 2014/15).
