22.3.2012 Artistic director says I’ve been fascinated by Helmut Oehring’s music for as long as I can remember. I could never quite place it what it was or where it came from. It seemed almost as though it was the product of a culture not of this earth. Maybe this was the kind of music they composed on the moon? Then one day, I discovered that Helmut Oehring had been born to deaf and dumb parents, that the first words he had spoken, had been uttered with his hands. I know of no other composer of whom this is the case, and on being told this of Oehring, everything about his music seemed suddenly to fall into place. Almost. BIT20 Ensemble and the Borealis Festival has invited Helmut Oehring to run a four-day workshop for young composers whose works, along with a specially commissioned piece by Oehring, will be premiered at this concert. Helmut Oehrings verk er bestilt av BIT20 for Borealis og støttet av Norsk kulturråd. Website: http://borealisfestival.no/2012/ |
